As the vice president of space operations for Spaceflight Industries, Nick Merski is responsible for overseeing the company’s product development organization supporting both the BlackSky Constellation and the Spaceflight launch services businesses. Prior to this position, Nick was the Director of BlackSky’s Constellation Program, where he played a pivotal role in the strategy as well as the development, launch, and operations of the company’s smallsat constellation which combines high-quality resolution, frequent revisit rate, and a streamlined user experience.
Before joining BlackSky, Nick served in the U.S. Air Force as both an officer and civil servant. During his tenure, he held multiple program management and system engineering leadership roles for a variety of operational and advanced technology programs including the Operationally Responsive Space-1 program and DoD Space Test Program Standard Interface Vehicle.
Nick received his Master’s degree in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology and his Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Nick also serves on the Board of Directors for LEOstella, a joint venture between Spaceflight Industries and Thales Alenia Space.
In his spare minutes, Nick enjoys playing with his two young boys, running, and has been known to occasionally sneak away to ski.
